(Hong Kong, 17 October 2016) China Overseas Land and Investment Limited (the “Company”, or “COLI”; Stock Code: 00688.HK) has been included once again in the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index Series and Dow Jones Sustainability Index, recognising the Company’s efforts in sustainability development. Being included in sustainability indexes gives a strong signal to investors that want to focus on companies that perform strongly with regard to corporate sustainability.
Since 2010 when Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index Series was launched, COLI has been a firm stable in the Index Series every year, underlining COLI’s outstanding performance in the aspects of environmental protection, social responsibilities and corporate governance. In this Index Series, Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index is reviewed annually and its selection criteria include market capitalization, turnover and sustainability performance. This year, 699 companies were reviewed and COLI is one of the 30 companies being selected as constituent securities of Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index. The criteria for the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Benchmark Index are also stringent: after taking into accounts market capitalization, turnover and rankings in its sustainability performance scores, only the top 20% of the eligible securities with the highest sustainability performance are selected as constituents.
Internationally, COLI has been selected as an index component of the annually reviewed Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI), and is the only Chinese company on the list of 38 Real Estate sustainability leaders, among 3,800 listed companies around the world being analysed this year. COLI went through over 100 stringent industry-specific questions focusing on economic, environmental and social factors that are relevant to the companies’ success. The Dow Jones Sustainability Indices serve as benchmarks for investors who integrate sustainability considerations into their portfolios, and provide an effective engagement platform for companies who want to adopt sustainable best practices.
The Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index Series provides benchmark for sustainability investments and are reviewed annually. COLI’s inclusion in this series include Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Benchmark Index, Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index and Hang Seng (Mainland and HK) Corporate Sustainability Index. Dow Jones Sustainability Indices were launched in 1999 and is a databases of financially material sustainability information collected through an annual ESG analysis of over 3,800 listed companies.
